Michael Neff

Artist Statement

I have been painting for fifty-five years. I graduated as an English major from Cambridge University and studied with Neil Welliver and Rackstraw Downes at Penn's old Graduate School of Fine Arts. In the summer I paint plein-air in Washington Square. I mix winsomeness, folk, and fantasy into my work because I think we need it. I am emeritus professor of Humanities at Temple University. I was a co-founder of the Crefeld School. I paint every day and I love oil paint. I recently taught The Philadelphia Athenaeum's first drawing workshop. There's still so much to learn!
