ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a Canadian born artist and a Calistoga resident in Napa Valley, California.
I studied Fine Arts at the Collège St-Laurent in Montréal. Under the guidance of Jean Lefébure; a student and artist of the Automatiste movement in Montréal; I was strongly influenced and formed by his classical approach to color chemistry, drawing, oil and acrylic painting.
Master artists and teachers have guided me along the way to develop my unique style; Clayton Beck III, David Gray and Lorna Ritz. At Amherst College, I was part of a group of enthusiastic artists who studied life drawing twice a week.
My vision as an artist is to join my inner and outer nature in the creation of inspiring landscapes, flowers, seascapes or abstract pieces. I source my inspiration from a life-long quest for the meaning of my life through meditation and personal growth. My customers comment that my art emanates joy and a feeling of expansion. Some pieces feel psychedelic in nature and may offer a portal to expanded consciousness.
Seeing thru the artist’s eye, I am inspired by the colors, textures and light of the local vineyards, mountains and ocean in Northern California. As a creative, I use my strong inner sense to bring a painting to life. Sometimes, I feel that I am downloading a piece and being guided in the flow of the moment.
As a multi medium artist, I explore art with the use of oil and acrylic paints, oil sticks and oil pastels. My studio is always well stocked with canvases of various sizes, paints and other materials for the creation that is calling me. It excites me to try new mediums such as oil sticks, fluid acrylic paint and new brands that offer new features to the medium.
My current oil painting technique is initially Impressionist followed by a strong definition of some of the brush strokes. This process creates a stained-glass effect that enhances the colors and light and that I call Defined Impressionism.
I co-own Collings & Légère Art Gallery in Calistoga with Napa artist Marta Collings. We are a women-owned business that showcases our oil paintings and prints. In the past we spearheaded the Calistoga First Saturday Art Walk with 10 other galleries.
