Artist Statement

I am a retired clinical psychologist and I’ve been exploring my creative/artistic self for several years now. I have had no formal art training but enjoy exploring the use of as many different materials and styles that spark my creativity. My painting style can be considered “intuitive” and is driven by shapes, color texture and mark making. I start a painting with no particular image/s in mind. Instead, I let each mark, shape, choice of color and texture that I lay down on the canvas, guide or direct my next step and I try to stay out of way as the painting materializes or comes to life. There are many “fails” and frustrations along the way but I’ve learned to be patient and to trust the process.
