Artist Statement

My main focus is sculpture, the preferred materials are clay and metals. I often utilize found natural and human made materials that then become mixed media. Faces, usually the central subject, are paramount. These faces are fired clay; ranging from high fired with oxide stains, to Raku or Pit fired. This human presence is the expressive pivot representing themes of emotion, ideology, metaphor or even word-play and humor.
Proposal piece for this exhibit: "At the Beach", three dimensional: high fired glazed figure about 5" tall and ALREADY made, would be set in a shallow box (about 11"x14") bottom covered with about 1 1/2' of natural sand, some pieces of driftwood, smooth beach stones.....it would be interactive; the objects could be touched and rearranged "At the Beach". Below are descriptions of two other pieces, Jpegs included
