Margo Tassi
Artist Statement
My paintings are about place, and my relationship to it. I have been painting in and around Port Maitland and Beaver River, Nova Scotia since 1984. I'm drawn to places that give me a 180 degree view of the world: fields, open beaches, views from high cliffs and edges of lakes. Initially all of my oils and watercolors are painted in plein air and some are completed in the studio.
I've been led to paint landscapes through my love of French and American landscape painting. It is a slow and difficult process to let go of this inherited vision of things and let the rocks, ocean, and fields reveal themselves to me.
As I work outdoors, I'm struck by what endures and by what is always changing. I would like to embody a sense of both aspects in my work, and thus reflect the fragility of our planet, and its power of transformation.
