Wes Bulla
Artist Statement
Through my work I explore both an inner psychological narrative and a traditional technical process. My focus is within the figurative and still life genres, and addresses the idea of interiority. The figures in my work are often caught in a moment of quiet introspection. Through body language and the handling of paint as flesh, I aim to create a sense of the expressive power of the human form. My still lifes feature quiet spaces of self-reflection. Viewed through the lens of the past tense, the arrangements are intended as a symbolic expression of memories and experiences of a personal nature. I often incorporate both subjects together, creating a dialogue between person and artifact, though allowing both to exist separately within their own contemplative spaces.
