Artist Statement

Chicago based artist Debra Zare’s paintings can best be described as informed and beautiful. Her themes have ranged from clotheslines and cast shadows to orchids and moths. The natural world is what inspires her as well as the myths, legends and history that is connected to them.

Deb is a seasoned art educator and passionate artist. Having retired from teaching high school art in 2016 after 30+ years, she has since been pursuing her painting passion. Deb has worked seriously in many media through the years including ceramics, drawing, photography and for the last 15 years painting/mixed media.
