Artist Statement

My father died January 28, 2024. During the final months of his life, knowing that his end was near, I made the conscious decision to immerse myself in the experience of losing a parent. Over the past two years, my work has focused on the complexities of grief; exploring how space and time can shift or collapse during periods of great loss, thinking about the entanglements of memory and nostalgia, and exploring ideas of impermanence and metamorphism.

What began as a a singular event, the loss of my father, has expanded and has called me to revisit losses throughout my life while reexamining each loss from the new perspective of vulnerable grief, a position of openness and sorrow that doesn't judge or personalize loss

Throughout this process I have worked with photographs, text, textiles and the book form to describe and respond to a deep personal loss while transcending the personal to the universal. My work focuses on long form projects that deal with themes of home and belonging while acknowledging our own physical impermanence in this world. I tend to work in a post-documentary, lyrical style which can be described as nuanced and compassionate.
