Artist Statement

My still life work is formally influenced by the 17th-18th century vanitas still life tradition, but applies a symbolic language derived from a 21st century American context: memento mori born out of the background radiation of routine mass shootings, surveillance, police executions, and a feedback loop of escalating alienation & spiritual crisis.
