Artist Statement

While conflict is often framed through spectacle or violence, my understanding of it is personal and relational—rooted in tensions of love, change, stagnation, and self-contradiction. I am drawn to the quieter forms of conflict: moments of uncertainty, lamentation, and endurance that exist before resolution or collapse.
My work centers on moment of quiet, stillness, and contemplation as sites of processing and emotional truth. Rather than depicting overt conflict or dramatic action, I attend to the aftermath: the exhaustion, vulnerability, and muted reflection that follow periods of emotional or relational strain. These moments of stillness are rare, I approach them not as states of rest, but as fragile thresholds where reckoning and transformation occur.
Central to my practice is the depiction of figures in states of repose. In their prostration, they suggest desperation, fatigue, emotional surrender, resisting idealized notions of rest. I am drawn to the body language that emerges when defenses fall away: how a figure holds itself, where its gaze lingers or withdraws, and how it inhabits space. In these unguarded moments, the body speaks with a quiet clarity, revealing the subconscious, unresolved, or unspoken.
