Artist Statement

As a young artist, I put a lot of care into understanding and refining my voice. Identity is deeply important to me which shows up in my work as self-portraiture. My work is about better understanding my experience by spending time learning about my relationship with emotions both good and painful. I have found that by focusing on overlooked parts of the face and body, I have been able to peel back the underpinnings of emotion. By stripping down the experience of emotion I have found understanding through cropping and color, and it is my hope to pass on what I've come to understand in hopes it will touch even one other heart.
