Artist Statement

I have been a figurative sculptor for more than forty years. I work exclusively in clay, and from in-person live models.
A pose is established for the model, then I work from all angles until the form is developed. As I work, the personality and unique physicality of the model begins to emerge. The piece is often fired in a raku kiln to get earth tones, flashes of color, and shadow. Some pieces are high fired with glaze, and others utilize acrylics and waxes or stains.
