Anna Pottier
Artist Statement
Working primarily in oils, using unexpected perspectives, colors both vibrant and subtle, and nuanced humor, I interpret subjects that catch my imagination. Since earliest days, I’ve been haunted by the fragility and absurdity of everyday existence. This drives me to examine the often neglected - be it objects or or scenes - focussing closely in order to see their hidden traits.
Some scenes are from memory, others from reference photos I’ve taken. Works on paper include pencil and mixed-media scketes, some using vintage oil pastels from the first art set I got, c. 1971.
My work continues to evolve, with recent pieces exploring figurative work, as well as expressive still life and landscapes inspired by the west’s abundant natural beauty.
