Artist Statement

As a first-generation Mexican American born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, my artistic journey has been a continuous exploration of self and identity. My formal education, including a B.A. from Texas A&M International University and an M.A. in Teaching from Stephen F. Austin State University, has equipped me with the technical skills and theoretical knowledge to express myself creatively.
Initially drawn to the abstract, I experimented with various mediums such as painting, photography, printmaking, and digital art. However, my transition to teaching high school art inspired a shift towards more representational work. This shift has challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, but it has also allowed me to grow as an artist and gain confidence in my abilities.
