ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Katherine enjoys working in a variety of media. Sometimes she creates
unusual art from commonplace items like tea bags and egg shells or instead she
may choose to continue the craft started by lightship sailors and weave
Nantucket baskets. Light ships were the predecessors to light houses so the
sailors had long days with plenty of time to weave. Katherine follows their
traditions and enjoys countless hours getting each painstaking detail precise.
While raising chickens, Katherine wound up with many egg shells.
Instead of composting the shell fragments she decided to paint designs and
colors on them with watercolors and alcohol inks and then mounts them in
frames. The random shapes, patterns, colors and again attention to detail show
her great imagination as each piece lets the viewer share a bit of her insight in a
shell.
Katherine shows us that used tea bags are a perfect canvas for her many
fun-filled caricatures and scenes done with water colors and gouaches. After the
used bags are dried and opened they are the perfect size for small paintings or cards
