Artist Statement

In my lifetime, I have dabbled with many forms of art, never feeling drawn to any particular one. On a whim during the pandemic, I began working with dalle de verre glass and loved it so much that I have chosen to work with it exclusively. I am fascinated by its rugged texture and the intensity of color provided by the thickness of this uncommon form of stained glass. Due to its heaviness, this type of stained glass is usually employed for architectural projects where the thick pieces are set in concrete or resin. Through trial and error, I found that I could chip off shards of this special glass and utilize copper foil, solder and wire to connect them and create art work that is distinctly sculptural, saturated with color and beautifully faceted. I never tire of the dynamic display that results when light caresses the facets of these unique compositions. My work is highly innovative and it can be best described as a fusion of stained glass and mosaic art techniques.
