Artist Statement

Over the past few years my work has focused on painting, most specifically the landscape. Extreme weather has been headlining the news for quite some time now. It is the visual expanse of this theme that inspires me. Sun baked days with blinding light creates abstract shapes impossible to ignore. Floating cloudscapes that crash into a storm are all inspired topics for view in the framed picture plane. Peaceful moments of a single cloud back lit by the sun help shield the fragmented abstract into a soft, shape defining form. The perspiration of trial and error through the brushstroke creates a formidable mark trying to capture the essence of what it’s like to be outside, grounded in a shadow with tubes of opaque and transparency. It’s the weather I often experience and it’s link to our emotional states.
