Artist Statement

I saw a tiny frog, so very contently seated on its flower throne, with an expression royalty indeed. My heart was moved and I was inspired to create this artwork.

I had to capture this tiny wonder but in a size that suits its kingly inspiration.

The canvas was prepared in a multi-layer process. I added course material (sand grains and fibers) to the first layers of paint to capture the texture and natural environment of its “Kingdom”.

Multiple coats of acrylic paint were applied on top to achieve bright color combinations that underline the lively beauty of “Kingly Frog’s” green Robe and royal red Flower-Throne.

Lastly I drew into the clouds a crown. A playful symbol of his kingly aura, which is glowing like the sun in the summer skies above his head.
