Artist Statement

As a post-impressionist artist, my work is an exploration of color, light, and emotion through bold, expressive landscapes. Inspired by the world around me, particularly the vibrant scenes of Detroit and its iconic spaces like Belle Isle, I seek to capture the energy of a place, the mood of a moment, and the dynamic relationship between nature and urban life. My paintings are not just representations of what I see but are reflections of how I feel about the scenes I encounter.
Drawing from the techniques of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, I use sweeping brushstrokes, vivid color palettes, and exaggerated forms to create work that communicates both the physicality and the emotional resonance of a scene. I am especially drawn to the contrast between nature and the built environment, as seen in my iconic depictions of Detroit’s landscapes and landmarks like the MacArthur Bridge. These spaces, though familiar, are made extraordinary through my lens, where color and movement take on a life of their own, offering a new way to engage with the world we know.
At the core of my work is the desire to uplift. I want my paintings to transport viewers to uplift the spirit. As I continue to evolve as an artist, I am excited to explore new avenues of storytelling through art, including collaborations like my children’s book project about a man who founded a cow sanctuary in Michigan. These ventures allow me to bring more narratives and perspectives into my work, enriching my creative journey.
Ultimately, my paintings are an invitation to view my perspective of this time living in the urban Midwest. A time of great change and great strides in visual and conceptual art.
