Artist Statement

I am a visual learner. Experimenting with tools, materials, ideas creates visuals that are not expected. This surprise imagery is what I enjoy most. I select a general subject, then let memory, emotion and play lead the way.

Having been a professional gardener, my imagery centers around the organic, textured shapes of the "green" world. I think abstractly. Images are expressed as I feel them in my paintings and collages. Ideas are based on reality, but from there, I let imagination tell my story.

Being an artist means solving problems...constantly analyzing what I see. Reworking areas and ideas. I enjoy this process of questioning the how, what, and why I am creating. Letting the textures, visual lines and shapes develop as I work. I love the process of painting, especially when mixed with collage.

Being an artist is most rewarding for me when I try not to try too hard, but simply enjoy. Learning can be frustrating but, the effort is more than worth it. I create what pleases me with the hope that others will enjoy my "work" too.
