Artist Statement

Watercolor painting allows me to escape my anxieties and enter a headspace that feels like home. I usually work intuitively without any concrete plans, as I like to see where the painting takes me; there's no need to overthink every paint stroke because once it's there, I have to keep going. I draw inspiration from memory and emotion. My sense of wonder about the world, trips I've taken from the mountains of Wyoming to the forest preserves and parks of Illinois, shines through in abstract landscapes. Fixating on certain emotions such as joy, uncertainty, or hope, leads me to completely abstract pieces in an effort to capture what I can only feel. I hope to invoke a sense of whimsical curiosity in the viewer with every piece I create.
