Artist Statement

My artwork has morphed through many phases. I began as a portrait painter, studied drawing and watercolor at NIU, several years of etching at College of Du Page, oil painting at Oxbow. I learned encaustic techniques in Santa Fe and from my colleagues and friends. I am back to oil painting, my first love. I usually paint large in oil, but decided this butterfly needed to be small and whimsical, possibly for a child's room. I teach piano to young children, who inspired this painting.
