Gail Kelly
Artist Statement
Gail Kelly is a self-taught oil painter based in New Jersey, painting her Northeast landscape en plein air during all four seasons. She strives to depict the minutiae of her surroundings with honesty and sensitivity, thus inviting the viewer to see beauty in a scene they may have taken for granted. Taking inspiration from the impressionists, light and atmosphere are the most common subjects in her paintings. Landscape elements such as trees and bodies of water assist in this interpretation, acting as instruments in expressing the light and atmospheric effects. She finds that while open spaces and mountain views are more difficult to come by in the densely populated New York metro area, beautiful light is everywhere.
