Artist Statement
When I was eight, I thought I was an alien from Neptune. I approach art as if I never learned to be human, like an extra terrestrial being viewing the earth for the first time. From this lens, the ocean becomes a rectangular an always moving blob of grey and green and blue, humans become blurs of brown and beige and pink, melting into the earth beneath them.
To accomplish this, I do several plein air studies, focusing on patterns of light and shadow that emerge in every landscape, while also imbuing a sense of place that makes each location unique.
