Artist Statement
My photographic still life work has often been described as having Asian influences of uncluttered space. I strive to keep my images clean and simple while focusing on light, shadows, composition, and message. Most of my work focuses on studio compositions of organic subjects. I use backgrounds I have painted and textures to fill in the negative areas around the subject. I also take advantage of photographic opportunities wherever I happen to be. I work both in digital photography and alternative photographic processes. I believe that the arts foster imagination, which is crucial to developing creative and innovative minds. Photography in particular nurtures seeing, which nurtures how one perceives and responds to their world.
