Christine Cianci

Artist Statement

Ms. Cianci’s work focuses on the human figure due to its ability to evoke feelings in the viewer. Her work is inspired by dreams and heavily influenced by a love of history, literature, and myth but also incorporates political and feminist issues. Many pieces reflect her humor with a dark whimsy. She holds a degree in Fine Art attained later in life but is largely a self-studied artist.

The artist’s pieces in ceramic or plaster are figurative and narrative in concept and prefer the earthiness of the black clay used to take priority, tinting with oil colors or gilding after firing rather than glazes.

In keeping with a fascination with symbolism, Ms. Cianci created the Roman Tarot Deck, an ancient Roman themed deck, and is also an author of 3 books, including the companion book, The Roman Tarot: A Contemplative Guide to the Symbolism and Reading of the Roman Tarot
