Artist Statement
I am fascinated by the geometry in every aspect of life because it contains order in our seemingly random and chaotic world. A mathematical system with absolute rules creates balance and, within that, I find beauty. When I see the Fibonacci sequence reflected in the growth pattern of plants, I am reminded of a Mandala, traditionally thought to be a spiritual symbol of the universe. It grows in layers with each connecting to the whole spirally outward infinitely but existing only within itself. Through my art, I strive to make visible these types of complex and unnoticed details appearing all around us. I am inspired by the intricate forms that can be found in nature and frequently incorporate them into my work whether abstract or literal. I am influenced by the practice of reuse and less inclined to buy new art supplies. As a result, my material choices are typically based on what I have on hand, which is a collection of items that I have found or have been given to me. I gravitate towards objects that are frequently thrown away because they are so readily available.
