Artist Statement

Valerie Birkhoff has been creating figurative sculptures for more than eight years. Using our anatomy, she creates understanding of the human experience by showing us our fantasies, dreams, illusions, delusions, or visions through her sculptures. In her message she uses expressions, colors, body positions, the inside of the chest; to take her audience deep into the fantastical illusion of her human characters. The story is always deeper than flesh. It is through our fantasies and those of the people around us that help us grow into our authentic selves.
