Erin McCluskey Wheeler

Artist Statement

Erin McCluskey Wheeler was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and continues to live and work there. She earned a dual BA degree from Beloit College in Studio Art and Art History and an MFA in Writing from California College of the Arts. In her work, she follows an intuitive story arc to create densely layered, bright, lyrical collaged paintings in gouache and acrylic. Her mixed media paintings are process-oriented, beginning with a scrap of a painting, an experiment in color, or a found photograph. She is always interested in geology and surfaces and land formations. Erin maintains a dual practice in visual art and writing and her work has been exhibited and published nationally.
