Artist Statement

My contemporary paintings celebrate the beauty of the natural world and humanity that surrounds me. At the same time, my paintings reflect my deep concern for the problems we face and our need to take better care of our planet.

My paintings reflect a balance between shapes and forms juxtaposed with abstract backgrounds. The use of texture weaves a distinctive tapestry that adds complexity. My affection for nature and culture often reveals, at the same time, the violence and the tenderness of our times. I search for new ways to express the singularity and the diversity of our fragile world.

The Lucille Packard Children?s Hospital commissioned eight works for the new hospital extension. The National Women's Museum in Washington, DC conferred on me an Award of Distinction. My paintings were selected for greeting cards by the American Association of University Women AAUW. My painting won Best of Show and was purchased by the Alameda County Fair in 2022. I was a finalist for the BBC International Wildlife Artist. I am a Signature Member of the California Watercolor Association (CWA), and have won many awards from juried shows. My painting was selected for the National Watercolor Society exhibit in Los Angeles. I received grants from the Oakland Cultural Arts Program and a commission from the Alameda Arts Commission. My work has been exhibited in galleries, museums, zoos, regional parks, and wildlife centers.

My Castro Valley studio is open by appointment. I welcome visitors interested in my art.
