Marcy Villafana

Artist Statement

I have been an artist my entire life. Self taught from Southern California, currently residing in central Texas.

I have been without formal training or education in fine art until 2012. Where I engaged in a few drawing classes at Austin Community College - ACC. Under the instruction of Melanie Hickerson, I have continued to fine tune my drawing skills.

I enjoy the beauty in the light and dark spaces of the figure. My work is mostly of the feminine form.

Inspired by the works of Da Vinci, Salvador Dali and the 1970s-80s Patrick Nagel, I derived my own style in the late 80s through my love of cutting paper and textures. This particular art form expresses my need to control my environment.

Unlike artists who work with brush and pigment, I find satisfaction in cutting paper with an Exacto knife.

In my admiration of Real Women: mothers, athletes, home-makers, dancers, famous or not, women with uplifting attitudes, strong-minded, caring, nurturing -- with good will, I strive to create masterful pieces to express the inner beauty, goddess and spirit within. -Radiant Beauty Captivates!

I have been showing and selling may art since the late 80s, and have taken time in between to raise a family and grow a thriving career in graphic design for the past 27 years and web design (ModCat Design) for the past 18 years in Cedar Park, TX.

Currently I am enjoying a rebirth of my creative outlets. I am exploring an old love for drawing through charcoal and conte studies of the muscles and bones of the anatomy. - Just Skin and Bones!
