Artist Statement

Edges and strong contrasts somehow appeal to me. I am drawn to the sharp abruptness in the edges of geometric and free form shapes as well as softer edges. Contrast is an art element I have always taken an interest in whether it is the contrast of dark and light, one edge adjoining another, or texture vs smooth surfaces. Why contrasts? Life is full of contrasts. Sometimes ending abruptly and changing directions. I have explored these elements in both abstract as well as impressionist realist works for many years in my own painting.
