Maidy Morhous

Artist Statement

“Art is a form of communication between the artist and the viewer. Art is about vision, and how that vision is expressed is what can create a strong emotional pull for the viewer.

Maidy Morhous paints, sculpts and expresses herself with an insatiable appetite to create – Art is her passion and she lives to express herself. Morhous paints with the medium of acrylic; whether totally abstract, or an expression of abstraction by pulling in elements of her surroundings. Her paintings are meant to engage the viewer and allow them to contemplate and pull from within, and for a moment disengage from the outside world.

Referred to as contemporary still life sculptures Morhous continually searches to portray her environment in the world today. These sculptures expose the view to and pull them in to react and question what is being viewed – be it life and one’s existence, the world’s plight or just to bring a smile. Idiomatic titles prompt metaphorical interpretations to these works with hints at multilayered meanings.

Morhous received her Master of Fine Arts degree while attending Stanley Hayter’s Atelier 17 in Paris France. Before returning to the States, she then traveled to Italy to further her studies in casting techniques at the Fonderia Artistica–Marinelli Foundry in Florence. Her artwork has exhibited in Museums, and galleries throughout Europe, USA, and Japan.
