Artist Statement
Painting is my language, my way of slowing down the world long enough to listen, reflect, and transform fleeting human experiences into something lasting. Each canvas begins as a dialogue between myself and the world I inhabit—shaped by memory, emotion, and observation—and becomes a space where I can both celebrate and question the complexity of being human.
My work is rooted in the belief that painting holds a unique capacity to capture what words often cannot: vulnerability, resilience, beauty, contradiction. I approach the canvas as both a storyteller and witness, layering color, texture, and form to reveal the quiet details that define our lives. Sometimes these layers are tender and meditative, other times bold and insistent, mirroring the shifting emotions and experiences that shape us.
At the heart of my practice is an exploration of identity, visibility, and emotional truth. I am particularly interested in the narratives that are often overlooked or misrepresented—especially those surrounding Black men and the nuances of masculinity. Through painting, I seek to challenge limited perspectives by offering alternative images: ones that celebrate tenderness, introspection, and humanity. In doing so, I hope to create a body of work that affirms and uplifts, while also inviting deeper reflection and dialogue.
