Artist Statement

I am a self-taught emerging artist working at the intersection of texture, fabric, and form. My practice explores the quiet tension between softness and structure, using cloth not just as material but as subject—something that holds memory, absorbs time, and carries subtle traces of presence.

Working directly on canvas, I manipulate fabric through folding, compression, and layering, allowing its natural behavior to shape each composition. The resulting works exist between painting and sculpture, where surface becomes dimensional and light activates the piece through shifting shadow.

I am drawn to imperfection—creases, discoloration, and wear—as markers of impermanence. These elements are not corrected but emphasized, creating work that reflects the passage of time and the residue of use.

Without depicting the body directly, the forms often evoke it—suggesting absence, weight, and imprint. What appears minimal at a distance reveals complexity up close, inviting a slower, more attentive way of looking.

My work investigates how material alone can communicate emotion—how quiet surfaces can hold tension, and how shadow can function as its own visual language.
