Artist Statement

In the two decades since I moved to Upstate NY I have developed an intimate relationship with the natural environment of this place. I am more comfortable in the hollows, gorges, lakes and streams here than I am almost anywhere else. Drawing inspiration from Annie Dillard and A.R. Ammons I have come to know the stones and pebbles, cracks and crevices, currents and whirlpools, and especially the ice and snow, in these places. And the way they abide, but also are ever changing. Sometimes in my art I capture something of the glowing beauty that I see while I am out and about.
