Artist Statement

Art is more than the product. It is the process. It is the courageous act of sharing the story of redemption within our lives. I find that my day-to-day life is like a wheel kept at a pace unbroken. A lot of women my age are discovering that about their lives too. Like them, I carry within my mind and body the beautiful discoveries and devastating hardships of not only my experience, but also the experiences of my family. At times I have been consumed. In order to survive, I must leave some space, some soft room, a bit of quiet. For me, that can be an hour or two before I go to bed or mid day when everyone else in my house is engaged in their own pursuits or at rest. Interruptible, my studio is on the main floor of our home. I love it when they stop to visit me, share their creations and stories, or simply lounge nearby with a board game or book. As I work, I imagine myself mixing their words and hugs and laughter into the work, like a medium that extends the flow of my paint. Whether I am working on a still-life or from a reference from life, I believe the paint is infused with the richness of home. My current work is a meditation about memories of home and the light and life within the brick and mortar of existence. Soli Deo Gloria.
