Artist Statement

NASHMITH (Nash Mithani)
Nowhere else but in New York, where even lights inspire a loud existence. I capture the wonderfully fluid form of city-lights. For me, light inhabits a form which is revealed in its motion; a graceful dance of color, darkness, and radiance. In-camera single exposure with ICM draws out the power of city-light to create shape, define space, capturing cityscapes and landmarks pulsing with presence, story, and beauty. Born during a time of isolation—COVID pandemic, my fine art practice keeps me in daily dialogue with my neighborhood, and the city. I am driven to create because the lights outside my window beckon, and so I must follow. My camera a canvas in motion painting with city-light. Painterly photographs where light and movement serve simultaneously as medium, story, and visual experience. The story of each of my images is found in the colors and shapes I capture from the streaks of city-lights.
