Artist Statement

ARTIST”S STATEMENT

My work has always fluctuated between the abstract and representational. I enjoy the freedom to work in either area of subject matter depending on the direction my inspiration takes me. Ambiguity has always fascinated me, both as pictorial and as a psychological element in Art. My interest in color affected me emotionally at an early age, I can remember how certain colors could cause me to have a visceral response. My process of creation involves relying on my intuition and to be able to relinquish some control during the development of the painting, while observing the evolution in a detached state, remaining sensitive to the needs of the painting. The work is small in scale, inviting the viewer to engage up close and intimately. My inspiration comes from a lifetime of observation of Nature and through close examination of Art that I feel a strong connection to.
