Artist Statement
My works are figurative highly understanding symbolic and rewards an observant viewer with a lot of hidden details of it, I normally get my inspiration from the nature due to the attention and get my peace of mind from the nature which surrounds me. In my artistic practice I study the human anatomy and I involve myself in different activities that opens up my mind and shapes me in my everyday lifestyle. In my works they reflects the cultural heritage and social aspects and daily life. Traditional and cultural are some of the key elements that prominent in my daily works. BiographyGilbert Nsama is a Zambian artist born in 1987, in Luanshya he started practicing art when he was in grade seven (7). He used to make small human figure using clay and drawings. When he entered the secondary level he continued practicing art. Even though the school never used to offer art junior and senior level.After he completed his secondary level in 2007, in 2008 he decided to move from his home town to another town to seek some advice on how he can develop his talent to the higher level of perfection. Through the search and reading some books from an old library Nsama achieved the knowledge which helped him to understand something’s about art, and one of the local teachers who used to teach are saw Nsama Gilbert has drawings and he was impressed about his drawings. The teacher decided to start coaching him that he can improve his skills in art, after he acquired the skill in art.in 2009 he entered in to college to study Aircraft Maintenance Engineering at Zambia Air Service Training Institute in Lusaka. Whilst he was still in college he joined the visual arts council of Zambia in 2010 since the he has mingled with a lot of experienced artist. He has been exhibiting in some group shows now he has been working with art academy without walls (AAWW) studios in Lusaka. He mostly do paintings and sculptures, in his painting he uses oil paint, canvas and in his sculptures he uses soft wood and hard wood etc. he workings reflects the society he lives in, through expressional traditional culture heritage and his daily life.
