Artist Statement

This artwork presents a vibrant depiction of a traditional Chinese lion dance figure, created using oil pastel on paper. The artist employs bold, expressive strokes and a rich palette dominated by gold, yellow, red, and black to convey movement, vitality, and festive energy. The exaggerated facial features and swirling eyes emphasize the symbolic power of the lion, a cultural icon representing good fortune, strength, and protection in Chinese tradition.

The contrast between the luminous lion and the dark background enhances the sense of depth and highlights the subject’s ceremonial significance. Through loose, dynamic lines and layered textures, the work captures both the playful spirit and the dignified presence of the lion dance.
