Artist Statement

A lot of my work is bound together by what poet Anita Virgil described beautifully as looking for “something that might contain a form of universal significance”, in her case referring to Senryū poetry. A form with the human spirit at its heart. Similarly, I find her words lifting what we share as humans, and in extension, what it might be to be human.

As a multidisciplinary artist from northern Sweden, I work with pencil, oil painting and more traditional water based inks and woodblock printing. Drawn to quietly humorous moments and the simple structures so easily passed by from our highways, planes and railroads, yet so resolutely part of our history and lives. As shelter, storage, homes, hopes, presence and relationships away from the particular, towards what is common. Every-day. And in that way finds a beautiful, calm place I aim to reflect on in my work.
