Miles Mathews

Artist Statement

I create glass mosaics centered on the universal spiritual path and an honoring of Mother Nature. My work explores themes of non-duality, meditation on sacred objects and geometry, and a practice of looking to nature for healing and guidance. Through form, color, and line, my work gives presence to the unseen, translating subtle experience into felt reality.

I work with glass because it speaks to the fragility of life, as well as its strength. Individually, each piece is vulnerable; together, in alignment, they form something unified and resilient. To me, this tension between delicacy and durability mirrors the human experience and lies at the heart of my practice.

My process is deeply embodied. For me, creating mosaics requires precision, patience, and the full engagement of the body—an active meditation rooted in repetition, attention, and care. To bring more beauty into the world through this work is an honor.

I work out of my studio in Santa Cruz, California.
