Artist Statement

I'm a mixed media artist that has worked across a variety of mediums, but since exploring the idea in April 2025 I have settled into working mostly in collage, and using baseball cards as my primary paper source. My initial pieces were detailed landscapes of my home state of Maryland and current state of Georgia, before capturing other subjects such as plants, animals, portraits and the most requested focal point- stadiums. I love the multitude of textures the baseball cards can capture from the often-glossy fronts with rich colors, and the usually matte backs with dense typography, numbers and anecdotes. This also provides an opportunity to hide names, dates, locations and other easter eggs which can spark interest for me and the audience and have become a staple of his commissions which include many little references to the recipient for them to discover.

I am a lifelong artist and maker across a many mediums who transitioned from a 15-year career in foodservice operations to pursuing art and design full time in 2024. While revisiting my childhood baseball card collection in April of 2025, I discovered the creative spark that led to a collage practice using “junk wax” baseball cards as my primary medium. My first works—recreating significant personal landmarks using only cards, paste, and touches of paint—became proof of concept for an evolving series of intricate works. I am passionate about reusing materials and limiting waste, and the chance to recycle and reuse materials was also a big motivating factor in building an art practice around old cards.
