Artist Statement

I am a lifelong artist and maker across a wide variety of mediums that picked up collage last April. After over 15 years in foodservice, some sensitive newly acquired food allergies pushed me out of the food production environment and I went back to school, earning my associate degree in graphic design in 2024. In 2025, while still figuring out my next pursuit, I was in the midst of organizing my childhood baseball card collection and learning how little value it held when I was prompted by my best friend's new wife to make him a birthday card on a 5"x7" piece of card stock she had included. I had the beginnings of art project ideas rattling around my head, but when I received the prompt, something clicked and I had an image in my head of Baltimore, where the friend lives, in the Mount Vernon neighborhood where we had taken wedding photos and with the Baltimore stadiums on the skyline. I found the view in my mind in Google Earth and used that as my guide for creating the scene from cards. I was so pleased with the results and feedback I received that I created a second piece as a gift for my parents and a proof of concept to continue. Since then, I have continued creating landscapes, but have expanded into building nature scenes, portraits, objects and characters from cards. I love the multitude of textures baseball cards can create by utilizing different parts of each card. They also provide the opportunity to hide names, dates, favorite players, and other easter eggs which can spark interest for myself in the moment or can be targeted to the recipient, and can engage a wide audience of baseball fans.
