Artist Statement

I am interested in the tension between simulation, representation, and reality. Virtual landscapes are coded rather than grown, governed by algorithms rather than natural laws. Using computer-generated imagery as references, I paint realistically to treat virtual worlds with a similar sensitivity that historical realism painters had towards their physical reality.
Centering on themes of desire and care, my paintings survey the tension between the familiar and the surreal, using innovative techniques and materials to reimagine everyday objects and spaces.
