Veronica Snead

Artist Statement

This body of untitled paintings began as experiments in color theory and practices in intuition. Those experiments became something bigger than just the love of color. The dots can be perceived as inconsequential specks, but in groups, they become forms and atmospheres in an ambiguous pictorial space that sits outside the bounds of our physical world.
This series is greatly influenced by the philosophy of Simone Weil, who believed that, "attention is the highest form of love". To love ones work, and to worship it as a cause beyond oneself is a road to transcendence and enlightenment.
Through a highly regimented practice, these pieces are driven by discovery; a reverence for the mystery of what will be. Inevitability can only be dictated so much, so relinquishing oneself of that burden allows us to find peace and beauty through all matters of life.
