Tabitha Gatdula
Artist Statement
My work explores healing, resilience, and identity through layered, textural mixed-media painting. As a veteran, mother, and self-taught artist, my creative process is deeply rooted in lived experience grief, transition, strength, and restoration. Each piece is an emotional landscape, inviting the viewer to pause, reflect, and find connection within their own journey.
This proposed exhibition centers on a cohesive body of work that reflects emotional movement and inner transformation. Using bold color, stitching, fabric, and expressive mark-making, my paintings represent moments of fracture and repair; what it looks like to be torn, yet still standing. The work is intentionally tactile, emphasizing the idea that healing is layered and often imperfect.
My preferred exhibition dates are:
• October 16 – December 4
(Flexible if needed)
As a community engagement component, I propose hosting a guided reflection or art-and-healing conversation, where visitors are invited to share written reflections or participate in a short creative exercise focused on resilience and personal growth. This could be paired with an informal artist talk about using art as a tool for emotional processing and self-expression.
Ultimately, this exhibition is an offering of honesty and hope. It is meant to create space for emotion, dialogue, and healing within the community.
