Denzel Peters
Artist Statement
To whom it may concern,
My name is Denzel Peters. I am a street photographer from Brooklyn, NY and I am applying for the artist open call for the Summer Juried Exhibition. As a street photographer working primarily in black and white, my practice is rooted in observing and preserving the raw, unfiltered moments that define human interaction in public and intimate spaces. I am drawn to the quiet intensity of gatherings? Whether fleeting exchanges on city corners or moments of stillness within bustling interiors. Through my lens, I seek to reveal the emotional undercurrents that often go unnoticed: a glance, a gesture, a silence shared among strangers.
My choice to shoot in monochrome is intentional. Stripping away color allows me to focus on contrast, light, and composition in a way that brings emotional clarity to each frame. It also lends a timeless quality to the work? Reminding viewers that while our settings may change, the core of our collective experience remains universal and deeply human. I believe my contribution would complement the exhibit by offering a visual narrative that speaks to connection, proximity, and the emotional weight of presence. My photographs strive to honor the subtle yet powerful bonds that form in everyday life.
