Artist Statement

Much of my imagery has come about through the act of drawing itself, related to direct experience. Gesture, line, and progress build reference to physicality and body. Imagery emerges or is related to mythology and personal story.

My work has evolved into an exploration of drawing and symbolic imagery. I work very intuitively and allow association and discovery as I work.

Simple or iconic imagery with layered context interests me and I pursue some understanding of these subjects through my art. How a story evolves within the physical and emotional experience of the drawing engages me. I do not seek a complex narrative but rather let the images evolve and invite reflection. I often start with a simple premise and let my working process, progress and media define the result.

I have been working with images from the natural world such as floating ducks and knotted and coiled snakes. These images seem to oppose each other but often as I work I find sympathies and resonations.
