BONNIE PERITZ

Two lines and a square. This geometric construct comprises the formal concept upon which my current series of work are based. None of these elements has to be perfect or identical, just present.

The process is less formal. I generally limit myself to 3 - 5 colors, and use tints and shades of these, taking into account the space around the mark-making I produce to develop the composition. Many of the squares are printed in neutrals, but not always. I work with the paper, at times scratching it or peeling it away layer by layer. Sometimes it fatigues and tears, sometimes it remains intact. The paint pigment can penetrate the layers or lay on the surface. It varies from work to work.

I call this series of artwork, ADJECTIVES. The title of this series is intended to emphasize the viewer's interpretation. Each piece is a reflection of my emotions during the production process, but the thoughts or feelings that are evoked as the viewer interacts with the work is significant. I leave it to the viewer to use the 'adjective' that they think best describes what they are viewing and experiencing.
