Artist Statement

My work begins with a series of sketches that focus on fluid forms free from material constraints or the effects of gravity. Iconic figures of myth, philosophy and storytelling inspire the moments captured in the form. 3D modeling techniques give dimensional form to a sketch and informs the center of gravity and balance. The digital form is translated into wood using traditional furniture design techniques. The wood pattern is then molded for casting in bronze or iron. This piece is heavier than 40lbs but I am able to move it with a hand truck assuming there is an elevator.
