Artist Statement

My work begins with a series of sketches that focus on fluid forms free from material constraints or the effects of gravity. Iconic figures of myth, philosophy and storytelling inspire the moments captured in the form. 3D modeling techniques give dimensional form to a sketch and informs the center of gravity and balance. The digital form is translated into wood using traditional furniture design techniques. The wood pattern is then molded for casting in concrete, bronze or iron. Concrete supports strong monolithic forms while the cast metals support both the core structure as well as some of the fluid linear aspects of the original sketch.
